Motorists threatened with machete in road rage incident

Two motorists were threatened with a large machete in a road rage incident in Wellington this morning, police said.

The incident, in suburban Newtown, occurred when a van towing another vehicle was overtaken on double yellow lines by a black car about 8.45am, Constable Andrew Compton said in a statement.

When they pulled up an intersection, a man got out of the black car and got a machete out the boot.

He banged on the window of the van before waving the machete at the occupant of the towed vehicle.

There was a struggle as he returned to his car and the machete was taken off him before he drove away, Mr Compton said.
