The victim of an alleged hit-and-run aggravated robbery was left lying on the side of the road with his pleas for help ignored by passing motorists, police say.
Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said the man, 21, was walking home across Anglesea St, Hamilton, about 11pm
yesterday when he was hit by a vehicle, slightly south of the Caro St intersection.
Police believe two men and a woman in the car then demanded the man's wallet. They also took his dark green backpack which had been thrown a short distance away when the vehicle hit.
"The man managed to phone 111 on his cell phone. Fortunately he suffered only minor injuries but was left understandably stunned. What concerns us is that his cries for help went unanswered by a number of passing motorists in the area," said Det snr sgt Thornton.
Mr Thornton said following last night's international cricket match the area was busier than normal as people made their way home from the match and detectives hoped someone may recall seeing the incident take place.
