A motorcyclist who died after he left the road and crashed into a tree on Banks Peninsula at the weekend has been named by police.
Jay Michael Senior, 37, was riding a black Suzuki motorcycle heading west on Gebbies Pass Rd when the fatal accident happened shortly before 6pm onSunday.
Police believe he drifted across the road, onto the grass verge, and travelled a short distance before hitting a tree.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
Police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
Officers want to speak to anyone who was travelling along Gebbies Pass Rd late Sunday afternoon as they may be able to help with their inquiries into the crash.
"If you were travelling to/through the Teddington intersection, witnessed the crash or saw a black motorcycle heading along Gebbies Pass on 30 November 2014 (late-afternoon) please contact Christchurch Police by calling 03 423 1381," a police statement said.
