A motorcyclist was critically injured when his bike crashed into a fence in Whanganui tonight.

Police were called to the crash on Heads Rd about 6.50pm.

The motorcyclist was the only person involved in the crash. He was taken by ambulance to Whanganui Hospital in a critical condition.

The police serious crash unit was examining the scene as part of its investigation into the cause of the crash.

Whanganui police have called for anyone who witnessed the crash or had useful information to get in touch.
