A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a car while trying to cross over State Highway 2 early today, police say.
The rider, whose name has yet to be released, died at the scene of the crash in Otara, about 7km southeast of Opotiki.
The driver of the
car was not injured.
Police said the motorcyclist was trying to travel from one side of the road to another
While doing so he failed to give way to an oncoming car and collided with it, Sergeant Ray Wylie, of Whakatane police, said.
