Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after crash

A man has been airlifted to Palmerston North hospital with serious injuries after a motorcycle accident in Moawhango this afternoon.

A Taihape man in his 40s suffered serious internal injuries in the crash when his motorcycle left the road, narrowly missing a tractor, a Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter spokesman said.

Paramedics worked on the man during the airlift and he arrived at Palmerston North hospital in a critical condition.

The Rescue Helicopter was needed because of the remote location of the accident scene, the serious nature of the injuries and the high level of care able to be provided while en-route to hospital.
