Lana Coc-Kroft has one wish: to spend Mother's Day with her boys.
The former Miss New Zealand has left her bed for the first time since being airlifted to Auckland City Hospital on Wednesday last week.
Yesterday, helped by best friend Jane Kiely, she took her first tentative steps since
collapsing while filming in Fiji.
"It's a big, big relief," said Coc-Kroft's agent, Andy Haden.
"The family has coped well under a lot of pressure and are very relieved. It will be an express wish of Lana's now to have her sons with her on Mother's Day."
Husband Steve Gleye took time out from his bedside vigil to buy his wife a new pair of pyjamas.
Doctors say the condition of the model-turned-TV star is "stable under 24-hour care, and progressing well", but it is likely she will remain in Auckland City Hospital for some time.
Coc-Kroft has been in a critical condition since being struck down by a mystery illness while recording Celebrity Treasure Island in Fiji. She has been drifting in and out of a coma and has been on a respirator at times.
Mr Haden said "the situation had been touch and go at first".
However, yesterday Coc-Kroft had been able to get out of bed for the first time and had showered. She felt she was recovering, but was still very weak and in pain.
Ric Salizzo, Coc-Kroft's co-host on Sports Cafe, said: "She left a cheeky message on my cellphone.
"If she's well enough to take the piss out of me that's a good sign."
Her disease has yet to be identified.
Dengue fever is a possibility but Mr Haden said there might have been a combination of tropical illnesses.
Last year the Ministry of Health issued a dengue fever warning to New Zealanders travelling to the South Pacific following reported cases in Fiji and New Caledonia.
