The seven themed areas chosen are: Dream Cars, First Love, Passing Acquaintance, Labour of Love, Power and The Passion, The End of the Affair and Only in New Zealand.
The exhibition comprises the museum's oldest car, a 100 year-old Brush Runabout and the Studebaker Dictator.
There's also a car whose model name inexplicably was removed in the lead up to the Second World War.
The exhibition has a 1965 Trekka, the only car to be designed and mass produced in New Zealand. Others include a 1967 Chevrolet Impala, an original Mini and Morris Minor, Triumph Herald, a tidy 1970 Mazda R100, a 1949 Jaguar MkV and an original Ford Model T.
