More flights cancelled from Palmerston North Airport

Three flights in and out of Palmerston North were cancelled this morning after all flights were cancelled last night.

An Air New Zealand spokeswoman said a flight from Palmerston North to Christchurch was cancelled, while a return service from Auckland was also cancelled today.

A Jetstar spokesman said the airline also cancelled one early morning flight out of Palmerston North to Auckland due to the local runway closure on Sunday.

"This was as a result of cancelling some inbound flights yesterday afternoon to Palmerston North," he said.

Sunday night all flights in and out of Palmerston North Airport were cancelled after an Air New Zealand aircraft developed landing gear issues in its nose.

The runway which was used to land the plane was shut down after smoke began pouring out of the aircraft.

The flight, from Auckland to Nelson, was diverted to Palmerston North Airport after the issue with the nose gear was detected.

The aircraft landed without incident at 4.45pm and all 64 passengers and five crew safely disembarked the plane.
