Moderate aftershocks hit quake-weary South Island

Three moderate aftershocks have struck around Kaikoura this morning.

The first, at 8.17am, was magnitude 4.9 , 15km north-east of Kaikoura and at a depth of 45km.

Just minutes later a second 4.9 aftershock hit within 5km of Cheviot at a depth of 45km.

Then, at 8.19am at 5.0, moderate intensity shock was recorded 52km deep, 25km south of Seddon.
