Moa hunter centre planned for Blenheim

Marlborough iwi Rangitane plans to use its expected Treaty of Waitangi claim settlement to set up a $1.1 million visitor centre in Blenheim dedicated to moa hunters.

The Mighty Moa Experience will open beside Blenheim Railway Station.

The centre will house a life-size (3m tall) moa, with touch-sensitive scales causing it to come "alive", moa skeletons and other artefacts found at the Wairau Bar moa-hunting ground at the mouth of the Wairau river, east of Blenheim.
