Auckland Zoo has released its 300th captivity-bred Kiwi.
The milestone bird, Tīhoihoi, was released on to Rotoroa Island this morning.
The Coromandel North Island brown kiwi is the 300th since Auckland Zoo began incubating, hatching and rearing kiwi for release in 1996.
Of those, 287 chicks have been successfully released
onto Motuora Island as chicks then relocated as adults.
Tīhoihoi is the lucky 13th to be released on Rotoroa Island, a 2500ha protected area managed by the Thames Coast Kiwi Care group.
