Gladstone utility back Cameron Hayton might have managed only one penalty goal in his team's 29-3 loss to Greytown in their Wairarapa-Bush premier division rugby match last weekend but those three points still brought up a personal milestone.
Hayton has now scored 151 points in club rugby this season, 117 in the Kapene Cup first round competition and 34 in the Tui Cup main championship.
Two others have also cracked the century mark, Pioneer halfback Joseph Thompson sitting on 122 and Tipene Haira (Martinborough) on 103.
Martinborough winger Nathan Hunt is top try-scorer in the Tui Cup with six, followed by Teihana Brown (Greytown) on five and on four, Inia Katia (Gladstone), Damian Kamo-Paku (Pioneer), Dan Griffin (Eketahuna) and Johan Van Vliet (Eketahuna).
Tui Cup competition points: Pioneer 17, Eketahuna 16, Greytown and East Coast 15, Gladstone 6, Bush Sports 5, Martinborough 4, Carterton 1 and Marist 0. Pioneer, Eketahuna, East Coast, Gladstone and Carterton have all played four games, the others three.
Highlight of the first round of the senior reserve competition, which finished last Saturday, was the effort of Tuhirangi in winning all 10 of their matches and finishing with 47 points, 13 ahead of their nearest rivals Masterton Red Star and Pioneer who both had seven wins and three draws. Competition points are: Tuhirangi 47, Masterton Red Star and Pioneer 34, Martinborough and Greytown 32, Marist 28, East Coast 24, Bush Sports 21, Carterton 15, Eketahuna 12 and Gladstone 6.
