People were welcomed to the beautiful and unusual world of orchids over the weekend as keen growers showcased the best of the best.
A huge variety of orchids were on display at the annual show and on Saturday judges chose the champions, grown by members of the circle.
"It becomesaddictive," said Sharon Richards, a member of the Wairarapa Orchid Circle, which put on the show at the Senior Citizens' Hall in Masterton. "Everybody brings in what they think is their best and they are judged," said Ms Richards.
Her 'Tiny Tim' orchid got first place in the Phalaenopsis group.
Ms Richards said orchids needed still, warm environments and this year's mild winter had benefited the orchids. "We have had a good winter, no frosts, which is conducive to having good growth."
Members said people had been steadily flowing in to see the orchids and the warm weather had helped attract people. The circle has around 40 members who meet up once a month.
Ms Richards said numbers have dwindled over the years and they are looking for more members. "We would like to get young people interested."
