Microdots on cars to combat thieves

Vehicle-marking is likely to be introduced next year to help combat car theft.

The technique, which the Cabinet last year included among vehicle crime reduction initiatives, involves spraying cars with thousands of microdots.

The dots can be seen with specialist equipment and are almost impossible to remove. DataDot Technology, which has the patent, said overseas statistics showed the dots significantly reduced car theft.
