Men's support for Labour rises as pensioners' declines

Labour has increased its support among men to almost close the gender difference it habitually records in polls.

But it appears to have lost support among the elderly, according to the last Herald-DigiPoll survey before tomorrow's election.

Labour's overall party vote is up by 1.3 points to 25.9 per cent.

But a breakdown in the figures shows its support among men has climbed to 25.4 this week, from 21.2 the week before, and 18.4 per cent the week before that.

It has the support of 26.2 per cent of women. Labour has also picked up support among young voters.

Among those aged 18 to 39, it has the support of 30.3 per cent, compared to 27.4 per cent last week. But only 19.7 per cent of pensioners support Labour compared to 27.2 per cent last week.

The Green Party continues to poll far lower in Auckland than it does in the rest of New Zealand, with 6.6 per cent support in Auckland and 13.4 per cent in the rest of New Zealand. Overall its support is 11.1 per cent, down 0.4 points on last week's result. Audrey Young
