Italian design, Kiwi ingenuity and a Swiss exercise ball have proved a tasty combination at the Men's Shed at Henley Lake, Masterton.
These were the ingredients of a pizza oven built by members of the shed, under the supervision of Don Neilsen.
The oven, which took 14 months to complete, is primarily
a pizza oven, but Mr Neilsen said, "you can cook in it, bake in it, fry in it; you name it".
He said to create the oven he had combined about four Italian designs.
On Tuesday the men were enjoying the fruits of their labours with a morning tea of pizza and fresh-baked bread.
The oven is built of fire bricks and concrete in a frame of ordinary bricks, with a steel door and stainless steel chimney and oven tray.
As for the Swiss medicine ball?
It was the secret ingredient to hold the oven up while the concrete set.
