TVNZ newsreader Judy Bailey has a mild form of meningitis and will not return to work next week.
The OneNews co-anchor has been told by doctors to take the week off and rest, says her husband, Chris Bailey.
Bailey was due back at TVNZ on Monday after a break over
Christmas but had felt rundown and tired.
The meningitis was diagnosed earlier in the week, Mr Bailey said. She had not been admitted to hospital.
It is not the first time the popular newsreader has suffered from the illness. Mr Bailey said she had viral meningitis a few years ago, which "knocked her for a six." Bailey did not want to make a big deal of her condition, he said, but she was disappointed to have to cancel a trip to Africa next month to film a documentary for World Vision.
"It was a pretty arduous trip."
Alison Mau will stand in on the 6 pm bulletin.
