Medium pacer Greg McLeod again grabbed the limelight when Greytown scored a comprehensive win over Red Star in their Bidwell Cup Wairarapa senior men's inter-club cricket match on Saturday.
McLeod, who had bagged five wickets in an Umpire's Cup game a fortnight previous, took 4-22 as Red Star was dismissed for
75 in a match reduced to 100 overs after the first day had been washed out
Other strong efforts with the ball came from Hayden Spierling with 3-23 and Glen Jonas with 2-8..
Opener Shayne Tyacke top scored for Stars with 22 while Rex Davies made 14 and Gavin Tubman and Jared Watt both made 11.Their last five wickets fell for just five runs.
Greytown reached their target for the loss of five wickets with the main contributor to their 78-5 being Mark Childs. He was unbeaten on 24 not out (four fours)when victory was achieved.Jimmy Logue (11) and Shane Mellor (11 not out) did best of the rest.
Bowling for Red Star, newcomer Richard Wylie claimed 2-16 and Jared Watt 2-29.
The Bracewell Academy XI notched up their first win in competition play when they edged out Rathkeale College by 22 runs.
At 70-4 the academy team were struggling in their innings but got through to 180-6 thanks a fine knock of 64 not out by Englishman Michael Jamieson. His main support came from Graham Williams (34) and Tim Lucas (23).
Spearheading the Rathkeale College attack were Duncan Watt with 2-46 and Craig Aplin with 2-60.
Rathkeale College started well enough when they batted and at 136-5 looked a winning chance but their last five wickets fell for just 22 runs and they were all out for 158. Simon-Clinton Baker 34, Paul Lyttle 33 and Andy Dodd 31 all batted soundly.
Williams completed a good all-round game for the academy team by taking 5-34 while Ben Hundermark took 2-46.
Lansdowne secured a six-wicket win over Wairarapa College. The students made 141 and would have been in deeper strife had not promising youngsters Alex Tressider and Joel Macklin provided a healthy partnership. Tressider was out for 49 and Macklin finished 39 not out.
The return of star all-rounder Robin James strengthened the Lansdowne attack and he finished with 4-20 while Choi Jackson took 2-28, Willie Thompson 2-33 and Sam Curtis 2-21.
The hard-hitting Aaron Bidlake ensured Lansdowne overhauled the Wairarapa College total in comfortable fashion. He found the boundary on several occasions in his knock of 64. Curtis made 22 and Lansdowne reached 145 for the loss of only five wickets. Bowling for Wairarapa College S.Evans took 3-47.
