Losing your first tooth is a milestone for any child, but Quinntana Cooper could be one of the youngest to do this at just seven-months-old.
The child was lying on the couch at his home in Masterton when his tooth fell out of his mouth, according to his mother Tommi Cooper:
"all we saw was blood".
Miss Cooper said she and her partner were unsure of what was unsettling the baby, but after he was cleaned up the tooth was found.
Miss Cooper's mother called dentists offices all over the region, including Wellington, to make sure everything was fine.
"They thought that he was seven-years-old," said Miss Cooper.
He was taken to a dentist who said it was unusual: "they told us that he had the tooth of a one-year-old".
A Masterton dentist, who did not want to be named because of patient confidentiality, said the case is extremely unusual, but not unheard of.
They said Quinntana may have had a bump or a knock which wasn't noticed and said children's teeth at any age are very vulnerable.
Quinntana lost his bottom tooth, but still has five left in his mouth, and has to be wary of catching an infection.
He has been teething for the last two months, but still has a way to go.
