The cricket outfield will be extended by about 3m on a section of the far boundary, making an existing pathway there narrower but this will allow for the lowering of a concrete kerb which will help safety.
A big plus under the revised plan is that the grandstand's ability to withstand earthquakes without damage will be greatly enhanced.
Wairarapa Cricket chairman Sam Rossiter-Stead told councillors changes to the far boundary would not impact on vehicle access to the cafe in the park.
"You will still be able to drive to everywhere you can currently do so," he said.
In answer to a question from councillor Pip Hannon, Mr Rossiter-Stead said slight changes to the shape of the oval were not significant.
"It will still be an oval, just a slightly fatter one."
Renovations to the inside of the grandstand would, in part, create a larger meeting room than the long room now there which councillor Gary Caffell welcomed. He said it would likely be well utilised "especially in summer" and could prove to be a popular venue for functions and wedding receptions.
