The revamp of a Masterton marae to be filmed next week for the Marae DIY television programme is a coming home of sorts for a production crew manager on the show.
Show spokeswoman Nicole Quinton said a crew of about 12 people, including the producer, camera operators, and presenters, will
begin the three-and-a-half day renovation of Te Rangimarie Marae in Cole St on Thursday, April 28 alongside "whanau, community members and businesses".
She said the mahi, or work, needed to renovate the marae will begin after a powhiri, or welcome, for the crew late on Thursday morning. Work will start at the marae each day at 7am until Sunday with more whanau and other helpers expected to be onsite during the weekend.
She said the show was also boosted with help from the New Zealand Defence Force, which sends experienced engineers, and building products from firms including Paslode New Zealand. Resene and James Hardie among a stable of other sponsors.
The Marae DIY show is in its 12th season and had become the longest-running DIY show in New Zealand, Ms Quinton said. The show had aired on Maori Television throughout its run until a leap to TV3 last year.
