Masterton indoor bowling winners found

Dannevirke couple Steve and Margaret Clode have won a pairs tournament held by the East Indoor Bowling Club.

Fourteen teams entered the event and the Clodes prevailed by winning all four of their games. Runners-up on a countback of ends from other combinations were John and Jenny Mahupuku.

Dannevirke also provided the winners of a veterans tournament held last Wednesday. Maurice Hurst, Lesley Hurst and Nola Barnett took the honours from Murray Larkin, Colleen Larkin and Marj Healey.

The Lansdowne club held their championship pairs with Jenny Mahupuku and Mary Smith winning from Doug Murray and Colleen Hamilton.

The final of the East club's championship pairs was a tightly-contested affair with Donald Leighton and Marjory Mahupuku coming from one shot down going into the final end to win by one shot from George Mahupuku and Renee Zitterteijn.

Leighton also skipped the winning team in the Central club's triples competition. With him were Robbie Duncan and Tina Patrick. Runners-up were Kelvin Simonsen, Janice Leighton and Jeanette Whittington.

The Central club's rinks championship was won by Kelvin Simonsen, Danusia Leathem, Peter Bain and Jeanette Whittington.
