A small Masterton contingent made their presence felt in a big way at the North Island cross-country championships at Spa Thermal Park, Taupo, over the weekend.
Of the six runners, four returned home with silver medals - Jane Flowerday, Ben Winder, Tony Price and Ray Wallis.
Flowerday wassecond in the women's 55-59yr age group, completing the 5000m in 27min 48.10s. Winner was Jean Skilton of Wellington Olympic in 27.30.66.
Winder was runner-up to Daniel Nixon of Wellington Harriers in the men's 35-39yr grade. Nixon clocked 19.54.81 for the 6000m and Winder 20.10.26.
Price was a close second in the 55-59yr race over 6000m. He was timed at 22.45.94 in an age group won by Vaughan New of Wellington Harriers in 22.31.93.
Ray Wallis took the runner-up spot in the men's 70yr plus race. He finished his 6000m in 36.50.14 with grade winner Peter Vyver of Lake City, Rotorua, clocking 33.51.
There were strong efforts too from Andrea Williams, who was eighth in the 40-44yr women's age group in 22.9.28 (5000m), and Vanya Arnopp, who was 19th in the boys' 14yrs race over 3000m in 12.41.53.
