Masterton District Council sets contracts

Weed Warriors has won a Masterton District Council contract to mow grass at Hood Aerodrome in the town.

A contract for mowing grass at Hood Aerodrome is one of eight contracts recently let by Masterton District Council.

The mowing contract was won on tender by Weed Warriors who submitted a price of $24,140 excluding GST, the lowest of four tenders with the highest being $72,000.

Council engineers had estimated $23,000 and, at a meeting last week, assets manager David Hopman said a lower tender than Weed Warriors had been submitted but was not satisfactory.

A street lighting maintenance contract went to the only tenderer, Alf Downs Street Lighting Ltd.

This was a contract to be shared by all three district councils in Wairarapa for the sum of $793,613 for the initial three-year contract period.

Masterton's share was $491,899. The engineers' estimate for the Masterton share had been $371,717.

G&C Diggers Ltd won the contract for a sewer main upgrade in Raglan Street with a tender price of $352,432, very close to the engineers' estimate of $350,000.

Three tenders had been received for the work with the highest being $490,410.

The same company won another sewer maintenance contract for the Roberts Road to Te Ore Ore Road section. This was let for $121,221 and was the lowest of three tenders ranging up to $153,102, well within the engineers' estimate of $168,000.

Council has negotiated a contract with C&F Industries for bridge decking replacement on Morris Road for $29,030.

Replacement of a water main in Ngaumutawa Road has been awarded on negotiation to Higgins Contractors for $199,985 and toilet construction and first aid design work at Riversdale Surf Club has gone to ProArch Ltd with the lowest of three tenders, being $16,100.

A bridge concrete repair contract was awarded to Riverside Construction (Levin) with the lowest price tendered of $158,368.
