'Mass kidnapping' disappoints yarn bomber

Katherine Greer is determined to put a positive spin on what she's calling a "mass kidnapping''.

Just a day after 47 bollard covers were installed at the Esplanade in St Clair to encourage voting, 18 were stolen.

"They took all the fun ones designed to entertain,'' she said.

Made by five women from mainly polar fleece, felt and wool, the covers were a mixture of the practical and the elaborate.

The positive twist is that the plain covers pushing the message to vote remained in place yesterday.

Ms Greer said as promoting voting was the point behind the yarn bombing she was philosophical.

"The covers weren't theirs to take, but then it wasn't our space [to yarn bomb] in the first place. At least the message is still there.''

She was not planning to report the theft, thought to have happened on Tuesday night, but hoped the covers would be returned.

"In the scale of things it's minor, but it is disappointing,'' she said.
