A senior Maori journalist has quit his job presenting TVNZ current affairs programme Marae amid restructuring plans.
But the show's financial backer supports the changes where seven positions will be culled and the same number readvertised.

Te Karere, has tendered his resignation.
It only applies to Marae where he will finish up next month but it is understood Taurima is assessing whether he can stay on at the state broadcaster in any capacity.
When the changes were mooted more than a month ago Taurima threatened to quit if a change, which would see another presenter added to the mix, went ahead.
TVNZ spokeswoman Andi Brotherston said the broadcaster wouldn't comment on Taurima's employment status for privacy reasons.
However, she did confirm that the series was due to finish next month with a gap before the new "rejuvenated" show premieres in September - conditional on the Maori broadcasting agency Te Mangai Paho signing off on the changes.
Te Mangai Paho funds Marae to the tune of $1.5 million, Ms Brotherston said.
The decision is expected to be made mid-July.
TMP chief executive John Bishara said he backed the new format and reorganisation of staff in which reporters will be paired with field producers - standard practice at other TVNZ current affairs outfits such as 20/20.
"We're pretty impressed with the Maori department [at TVNZ]. We're very happy with the programme," he said.
However, Taurima would be a loss.
"He is a star in Maori television today.
"If he's truly leaving I believe he's going to something better - I don't think he'd make a dopey decision.
"It's always a shame to see people leave.
"He's really good but then again he might be going to something better. I wouldn't hold him back."
