Manurewa house and garage fires treated as suspicious by police

Police will be ramping up their presence in Manurewa as they investigate a trio of suspicious fires in the suburb overnight.

Officers were called to a garage fire at a Lupton Rd property around 8.30 pm last night.

Just half an hour later, reports a house was ablaze on Deveron Rd were received, with a second house fire at nearby Russell Rd being attended to at 9.30 pm.

No injuries have been reported in relation to the fires.

Senior Sergeant Veronica McPherson said the community can expect to see an increased police presence as they investigate whether the incidents could be linked.

The fires are currently being treated as suspicious, with Fire and Emergency New Zealand Fire Investigators are undertaking scene examinations.

Last night, a spokesperson for Fire and Emergency New Zealand told the Herald three crews were attending each blaze.
