Manukau apartment death: Three-month-old baby's death 'unexplained'

Emergency services were called to the scene on Putney Way in Manukau.

Police investigating the "unexplained" death of a baby in Auckland over the weekend have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances.

A 3-month-old boy died at the Manukau apartment block.

The confirmation comes after police were called to the complex just before 12.30pm on Saturday.

Police said at the time that there had been a "sudden death" but the circumstances had not been explained.

An autopsy examination was carried out on Monday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karen Bright, of Counties Manukau Police, said detectives had been making inquiries into the death since Saturday.

Bright said there were no suspicious circumstances and the baby's death had been referred to the coroner.

"Our deepest thoughts and sympathies are with the family at this extremely difficult time."

The incident happened at an apartment block on Putney Way, near the Westfield shopping centre in Manukau City, South Auckland.

St John was called to the scene, but staff referred inquiries to police.
