Man's death after fight sparks homicide inquiry

A homicide inquiry is under way after a 25-year-old man died following reports of a fight in Masterton last Thursday.

Police were called to a Stuart Crescent address after a report of a disturbance there.

Koria Steven Matiaha was found unconscious on the lawn with head injuries and was airlifted to Wellington Hospital, where he died on Sunday night.

Two Masterton women aged 20 and 21 appeared in the Masterton District Court yesterday facing charges. Both were remanded in custody for two weeks.

Police said more charges were likely to be laid and they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
