The Kapiti man who beat up his 15-year-old stepdaughter's rapist plans to appeal his sentence, claiming the man exaggerated the extent of his injuries.
The father, whose name is suppressed, was found guilty of injuring Jason Haward with intent.
The man said Haward was denying the rape and calling his stepdaughter names before the pair began fighting.
He also claimed Haward had exaggerated his injuries, taking a swing at him before trying to get away when the police showed up.
"He was fine and still conscious and arguing for 20 minutes until the police arrived. I believe he faked his symptoms because he didn't want to go to the police station," the man said.
