Man tending to broken-down car on motorway struck by another vehicle

A man who was tending to his broken-down car has been hit by another vehicle on Auckland's Southern Motorway.

Police and emergency services attended the crash in the northbound lane on the motorway near Ellerslie.

They were called at 9.40pm Monday after the man was hit.

He was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The northbound lanes was closed at Ellerslie and diversions were put in place while the serious crash unit investigated.
