A search is underway for a person involved in a firearms incident, which left a man with a gunshot wound to the leg, in Wellington this morning.
Police said they were called to the scene in Biddle Cres, Taita in Lower Hutt, around 6.10am after a 46-year-old man living atthe house sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
Senior Sergeant Glenn Barnett said the Armed Offenders Squad was called in shortly afterwards, following reports of a firearm being present at the house.
"A scene examination of the house is currently underway, and we are speaking with the five people who were present at the time to build a clearer picture of what has occurred and the possible motivation behind it."
The scene examination would likely take most of the day, he said.Mr Barnett also confirmed that police were yet to find the person responsible.
"Our preliminary inquiries indicate that this appears to be an isolated incident specific to this address, so we don't believe there is any wider risk to the community."
The man who sustained the gunshot wound was currently in hospital receiving medical treatment, and no-one else was harmed during the incident, police said.
