Man robs Valentines restaurant at gunpoint

The robber was caught on CCTV images.

A man who robbed a Valentines Restaurant on Auckland's North Shore at gunpoint last night is on the run from police.

The man entered the restaurant on Wairau Road, Glenfield around 5.25pm and approached the female employee as she stood behind the bar.

He then threw the employee a black bag and told her to fill it with money, police said.

As the employee complied the offender pointed a gun at her. She handed the bag back to the offender and he walked out of the restaurant.

The restaurant was closed to diners at the time. Patrons in the nearby gaming section which was still open were unaware of the aggravated robbery unfolding.

North Shore CIB Detective Sergeant Steve Pivac said the female employee was shaken but uninjured.

"The offender wore quite a distinctive jacket that we're hoping someone will recognise. It was a blue stadium style jacket, with white sleeves.

"This was worn over a grey hoodie and a black cap. He was aged in his 20s or 30s and has been described as a fair-skinned Maori, or tanned caucasian with facial stubble, tall (about 170cms) with a medium build," Mr Pivac said.
