"At that time there was only three guys, they didn't know there were more guys waiting down the end.
"Dennis went down and accosted them and got beaten up."
Scott said during the altercation the woman managed to escape.
They were pleased she got away but were now just concerned for her welfare and hoped she was okay.
Scott said his cousin had been left with a black eye and bruising but believed it would be nothing compared to what the woman was going through.
He wanted to thank the men for stepping in and preventing something which could have left the woman with even more injuries, both physically and emotionally.
In a Facebook post, he labelled the men "true heroes".
"Huge respect to the Bro Dennis and his cousin who saved a young woman from what was certain rape last night when they accosted 3 men dragging a young woman along the ground by her hair and into the alleyway next to sky city in Hamilton last night," he wrote.
"Lucky there are still good humans in Hamilton who do get involved." Scott said two Sky City security guards raced to the scene and police were also called, however Scott said his cousin declined to make a complaint as he just wanted to get home.
"The rest is all a bit of a blur because it all happened so quickly."
Police said tonight they had yet to receive a complaint about the incident.
