Man pleads not guilty to stabbing woman to death

A man who allegedly stabbed a woman to death at a south Auckland home they shared has pleaded not guilty.

The 38-year-old appeared in the High Court at Auckland this morning facing a charge of murder after the April 19 incident.

His name was suppressed at his first appearance and Justice Graham Lang continued that order until his next appearance.

The 48-year-old victim lived at the address with the defendant and police confirmed at the time there were a number of people at the house when she was allegedly stabbed.

Officers arrived at the home to find a woman bleeding heavily as a result of injuries received from "a sharp instrument", and commenced CPR.

Ambulance staff continued resuscitation efforts when they arrived shortly after, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Crown today withdrew a charge of assaulting a police officer.

The man was remanded in custody to reappear in September.

An April trial date was set.
