Man missing after cemetery tour

Police will this morning resume a search for an elderly man who wandered off from a tour of Wellington's Makara Cemetery yesterday.

The man, carrying a green umbrella, went missing from a Go Wellington Makara Cemetery tour hosted by a funeral home about 4.30pm yesterday.

The alarm was raised after the bus driver noticed she had one fewer passenger on the return trip to Wellington.

A police central communications spokesman said searchers scoured the area overnight and would continue the search today.

He said it was not yet known who the man was as no one had been officially reported missing.

It was possible that the man may have made his own way home.
