A Taranaki man is seriously injured in hospital in New Plymouth after losing both legs in an industrial accident today.
The accident happened at a Waste Management site at Bell Block, northeast of New Plymouth, when the man became trapped in a baling machine at the recycling plant,the Taranaki Daily News reported.
The man, believed to be in his late 20s, is understood to have lost both legs from the knee down.
A spokesman at Taranaki Base Hospital said the man was undergoing surgery.
His condition was serious but not life-threatening and he would remain in the intensive care unit overnight.
