One person has died in a two car crash on State Highway 33 at Paengaroa this morning.
The drivers of both cars were trapped in their vehicles when emergency services arrived at the crash.
Police said one person died at the scene and the other had leg and chest injuries and was being cut from the wreck by the Fire Service.
The man killed in a collision on State Highway 33 at Paengaroa yesterday was Ian Barton Foote, 47, from Te Puke.
Mr Foote died at the scene of the head-on crash in Western Bay of Plenty.
The driver of the second vehicle, a Hamilton resident, was taken to Tauranga Hospitalwith serious injuries, and is still being treated.
Acting senior sergeant Phil Gillbanks from Tauranga police said police were still assessing evidence from the scene and information from witnesses.
The collision was the sixth fatal crash in the Western Bay of Plenty this year.
