Man killed in Boxing Day crash named

Police have released the name of a man who died in a head-on collision on Boxing Day.

He was Kevin Francis Keane of Timaru.

Mr Keane, 71, was driving a rental car to Tauranga when he was killed.

Police said Mr Keane's vehicle and another vehicle collided.

Two occupants of the other vehicle, an elderly couple, were taken to Tauranga hospital, one with critical injuries.

The head-on collision happened at about 2.15pm on State Highway 2 near Gill Lane, Whakamarama.
