Man killed in Ashhurst crash named

Police have named a man who died after his car hit a concrete post near Ashhurst, 15km northeast of Palmerston North, on Saturday.

He was Jason McNabb, 29.

Mr McNabb crashed about 1.30pm on Colyton Road, near the intersection with Old Kips Road. No other vehicles were involved and he was the sole occupant.

Constable Darrell Cowan, of Ashhurst police, said alcohol was not a factor, and the serious crash unit was investigating.

A second person died at after a two-car crash on State Highway 43 near Taumaranui about 10pm on Saturday. Two others were airlifted to Waikato Hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with moderate injuries.
