Man killed after car hits tree

A 39-year-old Motueka man was killed when his car hit a tree early today.

The accident happened shortly before 3.30am on the inland highway, Lower Moutere, 6km south of Motueka.

Sergeant Rob Crawford of Motueka police said the man lost control of his Subaru on a bend just south of Motueka and hit a tree.

He was the sole occupant of the car and was found dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating the crash and his name had not yet been released.
