Save A man has been sent to jail after the brutal bashing of a dog.
In June last year, Maxwel Johnson beat his one-year-old dog so severely the dog lost an eye, several teeth, and suffered a broken jaw.
The Mangere man has pleaded guilty to wilful ill-treatment of an animal.
He has been sentenced to six months in jail, disqualified from owning pets for 10 years, and ordered to pay over $4000 in reparations.
SPCA executive director Bob Kerridge said the jail term reflects the severity of the crime.
