Man injured in ChCh hit-and-run

A man suffered a fractured hip after he was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident in Christchurch early this morning.

Police said the car hit the man from behind at the corner of Tuam St and Nursery Rd in Philllipstown about 4am.

Another man walking with him narrowly avoided being hit.

Detective Sergeant Richard Quested said the injured pedestrian suffered a fractured hip.

He was treated at Christchurch Hospital and has since been discharged.

The car was described as a dark-coloured vehicle, possibly a Honda Civic or similar, with one occupant.

It continued along Nursery Rd towards Ferry Rd and may have turned left into St Asaph St.

Mr Quested said a wing mirror believed to be from the left side of the vehicle was found at the scene.

Police are urging anyone in the area this morning, or anyone who who may have seen a dark-coloured vehicle with a missing left wing mirror, to contact them.
