Man in surgery after being hit by car in Tauranga

A man is undergoing surgery in Tauranga Hospital after being hit by a car near the city last night.

St John paramedics arrived at Te Puna Station Rd, north of Bethlehem, shortly before 6pm to find the 33-year-old with serious injuries.

A hospital spokeswoman said the man was in a stable condition and is undergoing further surgery this afternoon.

Police had marked out the scene, near the entrance to Bax Contractors.

Tauranga police were unable to provide further information this afternoon.
