Man in court over death of six month-old baby

A man has appeared in Porirua District Court charged with two counts of assault after a six month-old baby died from head injuries on Monday.

The 31 year-old man has been granted interim name suppression until Friday.

The man kept his head down for much of the appearance.

He was remanded in custody until Friday.

An application by a media outlet to take photographs of the man was declined.

No lawyer has yet been assigned to the case.

An order suppressing the victim's name and identifying features was also made in court this afternoon.
