Man hit by vehicle while crossing bridge

A 28-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while walking on a bridge in Hamilton in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened on the Victoria Bridge at 1.45am. .

Waikato District Command Centre Senior Sergeant Gill Meadows said the man was walking in the middle of the road.

He was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

He was thought to have been walking by himself when the incident happened.

The Serious Crash Unit are still investigating the incident.
