The 27-year-old man hit and killed by a truck and trailer unit on State Highway 3 in Rangitikei last night has been identified as Anthony Shramka of Wanganui.
The crash happened just after 10pm near the Wanganui Road intersection in Turakina.
Both the serious crash unit and Wanganui police wereinvestigating the incident.
While the truck driver had been interviewed, police were still in the process of speaking with other witnesses.
Early indications suggested the man was attempting to hitchhike to Wanganui and stepped into the path of the truck.
