Man head-butts woman and partner

Paul James Kirk, 49, pleaded guilty to assault and breaching a protection order.

Upset at a man telling his former partner that he, her former partner, didn't love her resulted in Paul James Kirk headbutting the man and the woman at the Henley Lake carpark.

His ex-partner and her 8-year-old son are subject to a protection order against Kirk.

The 49-year-old appeared before Judge Andrew Becroft in Masterton District Court last Thursday, pleading guilty to assault and breaching a protection order.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Garry Wilson said Kirk followed the couple to the Henley reserve on June 11, parking directly behind them and blocking them in.

He approached the driver's window and knocked on the window to get the man's attention before yelling at him: "I want to see you, I want to talk to you".

When the man got out, Kirk began swearing and abusing him, shouting at him, "lunging" at him and head butting him on the nose, Mr Wilson said.

The assault was committed in front of his former partner and her son - both covered by the protection order. "The 8-year-old was very upset."

Lawyer Peter Stevens told the court the relationship was over.

Judge Becroft said it was "too serious for him to deal with" and remanded Kirk on bail for a pre-sentence report and sentencing on November 10.
