A Wellington man who was taken to hospital with serious head injuries last weekend has died, and police are treating his death as a homicide.
The 49-year-old man was taken to hospital in a serious condition last Saturday after he was found lying on Rossiter Street in Linden, Tawa, withhead injuries.
The man died in Wellington Hospital early today, and police were now treating his death as a homicide, Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson said.
Mr Ferguson said it was devastating news for the victim's family heading into Christmas.
He said police were continuing with their investigation and a post-mortem examination would take place today.
"We are aware there were several festive events occurring in Rossiter Street during the evening and would like to hear from everyone that attended these events as we try and piece together the exact circumstances of this tragedy."
